Look Back Series: Bollywood, 2006


For Bollywood, 2006 was a year full of sequels. With top grossing films, Dhoom 2, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Krrish and Phir Hera Pheri.
Amir Khan was the star of the year with Kunal Kohli’s film ‘Fanaa’ and Rakyesh OmPrakash Mehra’s  Rang De Basanti, both which did exceptionally well at the box office.
Gangster brought to the industry talents like Shiney Ahuja and Kangana Ranaut for the first time in thriller and action filled roles.
Super hit songs of the year were Ya Ali from Gangster, Chand Sifaarish from Fanaa and Sexy Lady from Dhoom 2.
Aishwarya Rai’s limited clad attire and her kiss with actor Hrithik Roshan were controversies that topped the list.
Don, Farhan Akhtar’s remake of the original Amitabh Bachchan starrer was a hit amongst audiences but failed in terms of critics and at the box office.
The year ended with Shyam Benegal winning the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and Shabana Azmi the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award.
