Look Back Series: Bollywood, 2000


Bollywood, undoubetedly has grown and received world wide acclaim faster than any other film industry.
2000, saw the release of several all time favourites! It saw Hrithik Roshan’s debut ‘Kaho Na Pyaar Hain’ and several top action heroes in Romantic roles!
This year the super hit films were Josh, Refugee, Mohabbatein and Dhadkan!
This film was a year of comedies with Hera Pheri and Hum toh Mohabbat Karega and Gang!
Critics Best film of the year was ‘Hey Ram’ starring Kamal Hassan, Rani Mukherjee, Shah Rukh Khan and Atul Kulkarni. This film won 3 National Awards and was regarded as extremely controversial as it revolved around the life and times of M.K. Gandhi and his Assassin.
Other films released in 2000 were Beti No. 1, Bulandi, Champion, Jungle, Khiladi 420, Mela  and Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya.
Govinda bagged the maximum number of films this year and in terms of World Events, Hrithik Roshans marriage to Suzanne Khan was watched by over 1 billion viewers world wide.
A.R. Rahman’s Taal was regarded as the film with the best Music and the Maestro won ‘Best Music Director’s National Awad.’
Other songs that were received very well this year were from the film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.
2000, ended with Sanjay Dutt bagging the Best Actor for Vaastav, Vinod Khanna winninh the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award and the all time favorite Shah Rukh Khan having a daughter with wife Gauri Khan, ‘Suhanna.’
