Look Back Series: Bollywood, 2005


2005, saw a hoard full of comedies, romantic and drama based films. Action and adventure films were scarce this year. The top, highest grossing films this year were No Entry, Bunty Aur Bulbi, Garam Masala, Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya, Salaam Namaste.
Amongst serious films, Sarkar, starring Amitabh bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, a film by Ram Gopal Verma was a break through film. Amongst other films Dus was a hit action film for the year and Kaal was the only horror film released in 2005.
Amongst family dramas, Akshay Kumar starrer Waqt was a hit at the box office.
This year Rani Mukherjee won the Best actress for the film Black at the National, Film Fare and IIFA Awards.
2005 for a great loss in terms of actors and film makers, after Amrish Puri in 2004, Parveen Babu died at the age of 49. Rekha’s father, south film maker, Gemini Ganesan and Ismail Merchant of the famous Merchant-Ivory films pass away.
Sunil Dutt passed away at 75, leaving the Bollywood film fraternity in tears.
