Reality v/s Reality
Jhalak Dikhla Ja, Kaun Banega Crorepati, India’s Superstar, Bigg Boss and so on… Indian television seems to have been attacked by the Reality TV’s bug. When they call it reality, we expect everything to be real, honest and as clear as crystal but often we have come to notice that, it is not the case. Today, judges with a lost, contestant feuds with lewd language, wild card entries with candid controversies, suspense with a baffling background score and anchors with less words, more glamour are all the indispensable ingredients necessary to conjure a ‘realistic’ reality show.
The latest buzz is about the reality show Bigg Boss season 5. First, the show created controversy with its contestants. The show invited someone like Nihita Biswas who is the wife of Nepali Serial killer, known as the Bikini killer- Charles Sobhraj; they invited a pregnant Sonika Kaliraman; they also invited one transgender, 13 females and one male contestant. All this not only created a lot of news around the show before it started, but even later every minute of the show is reported through various media. As per sources someone like Sonika Kaliraman was paid a huge sum to come on the show. Sources also say that now that she has opted out of the show, she can always come back as a wild card entry. So basically, everything is paid for. All theentertainment is staged in such a way that the audience gets what is promised…entertainment. So even if that means twisting the facts to suit the TRP. That is the reality behind the reality shows. You believe it or don’t believe it is upto you but no one can ignore these reality shows. FridayMoviez News Desk: The Lion King Roars again!
This week, things seem extremely topsy-turvy in the film business when a 17 year old animated Disney movie in its 2nd weekend again comes out on top and defeats a much-awaited new film starring Brad Pitt and a brand new heart tugging 3D family movie in more theatres than anything else!!!
But again “The Lion King” showed who is king of the movie jungle by squeaking out another first place win with $22 million on its way to the blu ray DVD shelves!
Disney had only announced this as a two week run to begin with but that well may be extended now that it’s picking up such remarkable trade! The ever-growing trend of releasing older movies back into theatres seems to be spreading now with Sony’s announcement that they plan to bring “Ghostbusters” back next month and of course the early 2012 re-release in 3D of the Oscar winning “Titanic” (a tie-in with the 100th
anniversary of the ship’s sinking).
A real treat in store for the movie buffs!
